CALGARY — Calgary police say the death of a man found slumped to the ground was the result of an unprovoked attack by a stranger.

A passerby found the victim unconscious on the street not far from a popular area near downtown about 8 p.m. on Monday.

The man, who is believed to be in his late 30s, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving to hospital.

Police say they believe the victim didn’t known his attacker or attackers and that he did not provoke any confrontation.

They say they haven’t yet identified the victim and will not release a cause of death for investigative reasons.

Darrin Thomas Amond, 30, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.
