Calgary police shoot, wound man after suspect strikes officer with vehicle

The driver of a vehicle is recovering from gunshot wounds after being shot by Calgary police officers.

CALGARY — The driver of a vehicle is recovering from gunshot wounds after being shot by Calgary police officers.

Insp. James Hardy says police pulled over a vehicle in a southeast neighbourhood around 3 a.m.

The driver gunned the engine and took off, striking one of the officers who was not seriously injured.

Hardy says that’s when the officers fired their guns and the driver was struck at least once.

Officers found him a short distance away.

The suspect was taken to hospital and police say his injuries aren’t believed to be life threatening.
