LETHBRIDGE — Canadian officials have seized a number of prohibited firearms and ammunition hidden in a trailer at an Alberta-U.S. border point.

The discovery was made last week at the Carway crossing as officers examined a truck and flat-deck trailer coming into Canada.

Officers recovered 16 firearms, 10 prohibited magazine clips and one silencer.

Kevin Lorne Swanson, who is 48, faces a total of 34 weapons-related charges.

Swanson was released, but had to give up his Canadian passport as well as his U.S. permanent residence card.

He is to appear in court Sept. 19.
