A Red Deer business with a nearly 15-year history in the city is heading to the county.

Canadian Closet is moving into a multi-bay commercial building in Red Deer County’s Liberty Crossing. It will occupy more than 9,000 square feet to the west of Wolverine Guns & Tackle, in space that was used by Kitchen & Patio until that business closed in 2009.

Canadian Closet, which designs and builds closet organizers for every room in the house, was one of the original tenants in Southpointe Common 10 years ago. Prior to that, it spent several years at 1959 Gaetz Ave.

Terry Hollman, who founded and operates the business with his wife Lisa Love, said the new location will more than double Canadian Closet’s space.

“We’re going to have quite a few more displays,” he said, adding that an expanded store should also make fabrication of closet systems more efficient. He also thinks the Gasoline Alley site will be more accessible for customers, and he’s optimistic about future residential and commercial development in the area.

“It’s just a new opportunity.”

Hollman said they’re planning on a February relocation. He isn’t worried about losing customers as a result of the move, explaining that Canadian Closet is a destination store.

“This will be our third move, and our loyal customers follow us.”

In addition to closet systems, Canadian Closet sells a broad range of space- and time-saving products.

The other businesses operating in the Liberty Crossing shopping centre are Ashley Furniture HomeStore and SML Entertainment. The Hideout restaurant and pub occupies another building to the northwest.
