VICTORIA — A 26-year-old member of the Canadian Forces faces charges after a violent break-and-enter in the Victoria area.

Victoria police said the incident happened Sunday morning, when a 58-year-old man came across a burglar.

Police say the intruder stabbed the 58-year-old in the chin with a box cutter and fled, but a police dog later tracked down the suspect.

Investigators believe the suspect was intoxicated at the time.

A 26-year-old was taken into custody and faced a bail hearing via teleconferences Sunday evening.

A spokeswoman for Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt confirms an ordinary seaman from the naval facility was involved in an off-base incident and is facing charges.
