Former Wailin’ Jennys singer Cara Luft will perform her acclaimed folk music at Fratters Speakeasy in Red Deer.

Luft, winner of the 2013 Galaxie Rising Star Award, is becoming known for superb musicianship, accomplished songwriting and a charming, often humorous, stage presence.

Her last solo album, Darlingford, has been described by critics as “formidable” and “a tour de force of contemporary folk.” It was one of the most played Canadian folk albums on international DJ lists for 2013.

The Winnipeg-based singer, who performs at Fratters on Saturday, has been touring for so long her most recent tunes spin around the theme of home — or rather being without one for the past year. “It’s interesting to see how that desire has crept into my ideas for songs,” said Luft.
