LETHBRIDGE — A hemophiliac kitten in southern Alberta still has nine lives left thanks to a blood donation from an unusual source.

Park Pet Hospital in Lethbridge is praising a homeless cat named Boris for saving the kitten’s life.

A vet at the hospital says the kitten was undergoing a routine procedure when it started bleeding uncontrollably.

Staff called the Lethbridge Animal Shelter looking for a cat to donate blood.

Boris, a large feline with a very calm temperament, was able to give enough blood to keep the kitten alive.

The hero cat is going back to the animal shelter once he has recuperated and will again be available for adoption.

Dr. Kendra Kremeniuk says hemophilia in cats is very rare. She had never seen a single case, until now, in her nine years of practice.
