Three members of the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club have qualified for the Alberta Age Group championship March 1-3 at Calgary.

Qualifying for the provincials during the RDCSC Valentine meet at the Michener pool were Emalee Broen, Marcos Horscheck and Jaleesa Zaparniuk.

Meanwhile, Hannah Corrigan, Levi Johnson, Sam Ross, Kylie Dulc and Alex Mah earned their way into the Age Group North Regional competition Feb. 22-24 at Sherwood Park.

The Catalina Club took top honours in the team category of the Valentine meet.

“This is a great event that is run strictly by our parent and alumni volunteers. It’s really exciting that we had so many clubs interested in coming to our event,” said Catalina head coach Mandi Smith.

“We filled all of the spots available to athletes this weekend. A larger venue would really allow us to expand this event and allow more kids in Central Alberta to take part.”

A group of 14 Catalina swimmers will attend the 2013 Speedo Western Canada championship at Saskatoon.
