Catalina Swim Club outstanding at Western Canadian Nationals

Marshall Parker of the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club turned in an outstanding performance at the Western Canadian Nationals during the weekend.

WINNIPEG — Marshall Parker of the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club turned in an outstanding performance at the Western Canadian Nationals during the weekend.

Parker qualified for the Olympic Trials, March 26-April 1 in Montreal, by smashing the qualifying time in the 1,500-metre freestyle by 16 seconds. He finished third in the 15-16 year-old boys’ event and also qualified for the senior nationals, along with Emma MacDermaid in the 1,500m.

Alana Skocdopole has also qualified for the Olympic Trials and brought home a silver medal in the 17-and-over 100m butterfly and the 400m Individual Medley and bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Mady Smith was also a bronze medalist in the 13-14 year-old girls; 50m breaststroke.
