CFL in process of investigating helmet-to-helmet hits involving Kuale, Lobendahn

TORONTO — Ejiro Kuale is waiting to speak with Kevin McDonald, the CFL’s director of football operations and development.

The Toronto Argonauts linebacker was ejected in the third quarter of the club’s 33-24 home loss to Winnipeg on Saturday after delivering a late helmet-to-helmet hit on Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce.

The hit is subject to additional disciplinary action from the league and Kuale said Monday if he is fined he will launch an appeal.

The CFL is also examining an earlier helmet-to-helmet hit involving Winnipeg linebacker Joe Lobendahn on Toronto quarterback Cleo Lemon that resulted in Lemon being knocked out of the contest in the first quarter.

The CFL has fined a pair of players for helmet-to-helmet hits over the last two weeks.

Saskatchewan Roughriders safety Craig Butler was fined an undisclosed amount for delivering a hit on Montreal receiver S.J. Green on July 9, then Alouettes linebacker Kitwana Jones received a financial penalty for hitting Toronto’s Chad Owens on July 15.
