Matt Chapin has announced that he will be taking another crack at elected office, this time in the federal arena.

Chapin says he will be running for MP in the new federal riding of Red Deer-Wolf Creek in the next federal election, to take place in 2015.

Current Wetaskiwin MP Blaine Calkins has already announced that he will be seeking re-election through the Red Deer-Wolf Creek riding, which includes north Red Deer and stretches from Eckville to Hobbema to Alix.

Chapin has run in the last three municipal elections — once for mayor, twice for council, and once for public school trustee. He said he would consider running for a federal party, but is currently standing as an independent candidate.

He said in the interim he plans to work on city committees and intends to knock on doors and be present at farmers markets.

In the most recent municipal election, he finished 27th out of 30 candidates running for council.
