Charged laid in street racing fatality

A 24-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl have been charged with street racing and causing the death of a man walking across an Edmonton street.

EDMONTON — A 24-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl have been charged with street racing and causing the death of a man walking across an Edmonton street.

Police say a 31-year-old man was crossing 118 Avenue at 42 Street about 11:30 p.m. on June 26 when he was struck by a Honda Civic.

The man was dead when emergency responders arrived.

Nicole Reid and a 16-year-old girl have been charged with dangerous driving while street racing causing death.

A 23-year-old passenger in the vehicle was issued a summons for supervise learner without valid driver’s licence and permit unqualified person to drive.

Both drivers will make their first court appearance on Jan. 13.
