Jason Volk and Ken Fisher, CEO and president respectively of Chatters Canada Ltd., are finalists in the business-to-consumer products and services category for the Prairies region. Volk lives in Red Deer and Fisher in Kelowna, with Chatters Canada headquartered in Burnt Lake Business Park in Red Deer County.

The privately owned business oversees a network of approximately 100 corporate and franchised salons across the country.

Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards are being presented in 10 categories: business-to-business products and services, business-to-consumer products and services, cleantech and environmental services, construction, emerging entrepreneur, energy development and production, energy services, hospitality/tourism, professional/financial services and technology.

The panel of judges includes longtime local businessman Jack Donald, who is president and CEO of Parkland Properties Ltd.

The 2011 Prairies winners will be announced on Oct. 18, with these then eligible for the national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Last year, the Prairies finalists included local residents Ken Travis of Strata Energy Services Inc., Doug Quinn of Quinn’s Oilfield Supply Ltd., Bill Graham and Lance Kadatz of Rifco Inc. and Tracy Graf of Carfinco Income Fund. Quinn ultimately won in an energy category and Graf came out on top among professional/financial services finalists.
