Citizens needed for neighbourhood patrols

Others are welcome to join Citizens on Patrol.

The board executive is inviting residents to attend the COP meeting on Thursday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. inside the downtown Red Deer city RCMP detachment.

The RCMP dog section will give a presentation on what it does.

“Being a volunteer with Red Deer city Citizens on Patrol means a commitment of 12 hours every three months,” says COP president Troy Ropchan.

Volunteers patrol in pairs.

As the eyes and ears of the community, they report any suspicious activity to RCMP. This may include break-ins, impaired driving, vandalism, stolen vehicles and the like.

“The RCMP may be able to identify a bigger issue or trend going on in our city because of the information we record and report,” said Ropchan.

Telus Communications helped the group buy some much-needed equipment.

Red Deer COP would also like to thank citizens for donating cash into the numerous donation tins placed throughout the city.
