Red Deer is hosting a Canadian citizenship ceremony in conjunction with Multiculturalism Day on Wednesday.

This is the first citizenship ceremony in the area since 2008. The event takes place at 11 a.m. at Festival Hall at 4214 58th St.

The local committee that organized the ceremony expects to see 50 new citizens take part.

For Canadian Citizenship Residency, participants must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal prohibitions, pass the citizenship test and interview, and be a permanent resident of Canada who has been living in the country for at least three of the past four years.
