Employees of a private company hired to run the city’s landfill have joined the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

The 12 employees work for MCL Waste Systems and Environmental Inc., a Wetaskiwin-based company that holds the contract to operate the city’s waste management facility, excluding the scale house.

The employees work in the refuse sorting area.

They approached the union about a year ago with concerns about wages, fair treatment and working conditions.
