Clean up dog poop at off-leash park

We are very fortunate in Red Deer to have a great system of trails and parks. My favourite is the off-leash dog park at Three Mile Bend.

My wife and I and our dog have been going there for the past 13 years.

The City of Red Deer should be congratulated for keeping the trails cleared and providing a constant supply of poop bags, which are available free at six locations along the trails.

It is very sad to see that some dog owners believe that off-leash means that their dogs can poop anywhere and everywhere without having the responsibility of picking it up. I guess they think that somebody else will pick it up or that it will just disappear.

This past winter has proven to the absolute ‘crappiest’ I have ever seen since I have been going to this park! The amount of dog poop that has not been picked up is totally disgusting.

I don’t know how enforceable a pickup program is but some dog-owners should use a little common courtesy and common sense to keep our parks clean and free of unsightly and unhealthy dog feces.
