As if we didn’t already know it, Red Deer’s Collicutt Centre is deemed to be a healthy, fun place for kids to get active and learn new skills.

The non-profit Alberta Recreation and Parks Association presented an award plaque on Monday to Collicutt Centre staff for presenting high-quality programs and services for young people, ages six to 12.

To earn the High Five Recreation Services Award, the staff had to focus on encouraging participation, play, the mastery of skills, friendships and leadership.

The association’s CEO Bill Wells praised the recreation facility, calling it “outstanding — that’s an understatement . . . It’s something to be very proud of.” He added that the centre’s staff are well trained and provide youth with great instruction and leadership.

“We are very proud of the Collicutt Centre operation in its entirety — especially the staff,” responded Mayor Morris Flewwelling.
