A motorcycle rider from Montana is dead after a collision on a highway south of Calgary.

NANTON — A motorcycle rider from Montana is dead after a collision on a highway south of Calgary.

RCMP say the 51 year old motorcycle rider and a car were both travelling in the southbound lanes of Highway 2 near Nanton, when the bike was struck by the speeding car around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The Montana man, whose name hasn’t been released, was declared dead at the scene.

Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.

Investigators say that Anthony Richard Barrett, 26, of Calgary has been charged with several offences, including impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving.

The major highway was closed for several hours as police investigated.
