A 79-year-old Calgary woman has been identified as the victim in a head-on collision at Delburne on Tuesday.

Eileen Proudfoot, who was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision that happened about 1:45 p.m.

Her husband Alexander Proudfoot, 83, of Calgary was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with serious injuries. He was then airlifted by STARS to Calgary’s Foothills Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The Proudfoots were travelling north on Hwy 21 when their vehicle crossed the centre line and hit a southbound semi truck.

Emergency responders had to use the Jaws of Life to free the couple from the wreckage.

The driver of the semi wasn’t hurt. Three Hills RCMP, Delburne fire department and Red Deer EMS responded.

Hwy 21 was closed for nearly five hours while RCMP investigated the collision, which is still under investigation. No charges will be laid.
