A Red Deer radiologist business has been recognized for providing breakfast every single morning for four years to students at a Red Deer Public elementary school.

Red Deer Public Schools recently presented Central Alberta Medical Imaging Services, a partnership of radiologists along with their staff, with the Friend of Education Award for its work at Fairview Elementary School.

Superintendent Piet Langstraat said what was unique about this story was that CAMIS approached Fairview about getting involved in the life of the school.

CAMIS not only makes sure there’s breakfast for children who want a meal, but has a team of caring adult volunteers.

In order to raise dollars, CAMIS launched an annual silent auction, which has gone on to give additional benefits at the school. Among those is the music program.

CAMIS has bought many quality instruments that the school wouldn’t have been able to buy otherwise.

School principal Bill Kwasny said that the relationship between the staff at CAMIS and at Fairview illustrates the importance of what is being done at the school.

“We are encouraged and rewarded daily by the wonderful work of CAMIS,” said Kwasny.
