EDMONTON — Alberta’s employment minister says he is disappointed with the number of safety problems government inspectors have found at construction sites.

Thomas Lukaszuk says over a six week period safety officers found more than 200 violations and had to issue 39 stop work orders.

He says to say he is disappointed would be an understatement.

Lukaszuk says he expects better of the industry.

Fall hazards, including a lack of proper fall protection, top the list of safety violations.

The department plans to focus inspections on forklifts, young workers and residential construction in the new year.
