St. Francis Xavier of Calgary beat the host Notre Dame Cougars 95-44 in the final of the annual Junior Boys’ Cougar Classic basketball tournament Saturday.

Maurice Evangelista had 13 points and TJ Carter 10 for the Cougars, who beat Bert Church of Airdrie 60-58 in the semifinals with Ysrael Milanes hitting 12 points and Brad Anderson eight.

Xavier downed Archbishop MacDonald of Edmonton 72-53 in the other semifinal.MacDonald defeated Bert Church 66-53 in the third-place game. Earlier the Cougars defeated St. Albert Catholic 72-52 with Evangelista hitting 14 points and Carter 12.

Meanwhile, the Lindsay Thurber Raiders edged Spruce Grove 69-64 in the consolation final with Lee Wagar dropping in 14 points. The Raiders opened the tournament, losing 59-53 to MacDonald, before beating Hunting Hills 77-66.

Tyson Best had 18 points and Lorne Baile 16 against MacDonald and Best hit 24 against the Hunting Hills Lightning. The Lightning lost their opener 84-48 to Xavier despite 10 points each by Mohammad Shah, Jayden Hutlet and Chris Petersen.

Tristan Wattenbarger had 16 points against LTCHS.
