Red Deer city council has approved land use zoning for a three-unit Habitat for Humanity project in Eastview.

Council unanimously passed second and third readings on Monday for rezoning so a triplex could be built as a discretionary use at 3818 44th St.

If development permits are approved, then it’s expected the project could break ground near the end of August, said Habitat for Humanity executive director Cynthia de Boer earlier.

The project would take three to five months to build.

A public hearing was held on Monday but no one spoke in support or opposition to the development.

The city did receive one letter of support regarding the affordable housing project.

Two letters expressed concerns about zoning for bigger than a duplex. The area is already over-saturated with multi use dwellings, according to one resident.
