EDMONTON — There’s been a dramatic increase in the amount of extremely good quality counterfeit American $100 bills floating around Edmonton.
Police are telling merchants to beware of the fake currency.
But it may be difficult for store owners to tell that it’s not legitimate.
Police say the phoney bills contain security features that very closely mimic the real thing.
Det. Dennis Tetreault of the police Economic Crime Section, says it’s common for counterfeiters to use large denomination bills to purchase a small item.
He says it ensures they receive a large amount of genuine currency as change.
