The public can get a look on Wednesday at a proposal to build a new boat launch, walking trails and day-use area on the east side of Gull Lake near Wilson’s Beach.

An open house for the Anderson Recreational Plan has been scheduled for Lacombe County council chambers just off Hwy 12 about four km west of Hwy 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The county is proposing building the $3.2-million project in three phases. A boat launch and parking areas would be in the first phase.

A second phase would include more parking, playground, picnic shelter, washrooms, fire pits and other features for a day use area.

The third phase, which will be developed in a strip along the lakeshore, will include another playground and other day use features. The whole 21-acre site will include walking trails connecting to paths already in place around the lake.

The county and its consultants began working on the recreational plan last year and based the design on public feedback. Overnight camping was eliminated from the concept after residents were opposed.

A boat launch is sought because of overcrowding and inadequate parking at existing launches. Work is not expected to begin until next year.
