Cowpuncher bringing sounds to Fratter’s Speakeasy

Outlaw-country-grunge band Cowpuncher will bring its high-energy sounds to Red Deer this week.

Outlaw-country-grunge band Cowpuncher will bring its high-energy sounds to Red Deer this week.

The five-member Calgary group will perform on Friday and Saturday at Fratter’s Speakeasy.

The band has moved away from the genre-specific outlaw country/roots sound of its beginnings and lets songs come together in a more natural way. Matt Olah’s cleverly gritty lyrics are brought to life by the band’s keen harmonies and rollicking musicianship.

Call it roots rock, or Western grunge, Cowpuncher treats audiences to a party every time it hits the stage.

As guitarist Ryan Kelly puts it, “We’re here to take over. We’re coming for your city and we’re going to put on a good show.”

The rest of Cowpuncher is made up of Olah on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Jeff Sulima on drums, Scott Martin on electric guitar and Shari Rae on bass.

There’s a $10 cover for the 8:30 p.m. show. For more information, call 403-356-0033.
