Daytime joyride results in 19 traffic, weapons charges against Calgary man

Police say a Calgary man who faces numerous charges after a destructive daytime joyride is either mentally ill or was high on drugs.

CALGARY — Police say a Calgary man who faces numerous charges after a destructive daytime joyride is either mentally ill or was high on drugs.

Officers were called out last Thursday after a truck hit a power pole — it was later discovered the vehicle was stolen and had been involved in four hit-and-run collisions earlier that day.

Two people who saw the crash rushed to help the driver, but he swung a tire iron at them and then showered them with pepper spray.

A third witness, who arrived shortly after, was able to restrain the driver until police showed up.

But he pulled out a cordless power drill and lunged at a constable, who used a Taser on the man, although it didn’t seem to affect him.

Kyle Keenan, who is 27, is charged with 19 weapons and traffic-related charges.
