Deadline April 10 for affordable housing

Groups looking to build affordable housing or programs have until April 10 to apply for grants through the City of Red Deer.

Groups looking to build affordable housing or programs have until April 10 to apply for grants through the City of Red Deer.

The city, on behalf of the Community Housing Advisory Board, invites interested parties to submit Letters of Intent for housing programs and support to end homelessness at www.reddeer.ca/socialplanning.

Successful proposals will use funds from the Government of Alberta Outreach and Support Services Initiative Grant, which provides support to individuals and families who are homeless. This year, the grant also allows support services to individuals under the age of 18.

“The community and agencies that support homeless individuals and families have made significant strides in successfully housing this vulnerable population,” said Roxana Nielsen Stewart, program co-ordinator with the Social Planning Department. “We are pleased to see to that this grant may be used to support those under the age of 18.”

The deadline for letters of intent is 11 a.m. on April 10. Orientation sessions will be held next Monday and Wednesday. To register for an orientation session, call 403-342-8100.

The advisory board will review submitted letters of intent and invite applicants to proceed to the second phase of the funding process.

Once both phases are done, the board will make recommendations to city council for its approval as to which projects best align with the goals set out in EveryOne’s Home: Red Deer’s 5 Year Plan Towards Ending Homelessness.
