MEDICINE HAT — A southern Alberta man has been banned from owning dogs for 10 years after pleading guilty to animal cruelty.

Blake Wamsteeker of Redcliff was charged after a neighbour alerted authorities that two dogs under his care were being neglected.

Court heard that officials found one dog had died of dehydration and starvation in Wamsteeker’s backyard.

Another dog was extremely malnourished and near death.

Court was told Wamsteeker was a trucker and left town for extended periods of time.

Along with the ban, he was fined $1,000.
