Decision pushes alleged Calgary gang member closer to deportation

CALGARY — The Federal Court of Canada has decided not to review a deportation order against a notorious alleged Calgary gang member.

CALGARY — The Federal Court of Canada has decided not to review a deportation order against a notorious alleged Calgary gang member.

The decision — released following a judicial review — pushes Jackie Tran closer to being deported to Vietnam.

Tran’s lawyer argued at last week’s review that immigration authorities made mistakes when they dismissed the convicted drug trafficker’s appeal of a 2004 deportation order that was based on serious criminality.

The 27-year-old man has one more avenue of appeal to stop his expulsion from Canada.

His lawyers have filed a request for a judicial review of a second deportation order that was issued on the basis that Tran is an alleged member of a criminal organization.

A hearing on that matter is scheduled for April.
