Defence argues Calgary man was legally insane when he killed his children

The brother of a man charged with killing both of his children and trying to kill his wife has testified his sibling had no temper and was quiet.

CALGARY — The brother of a man charged with killing both of his children and trying to kill his wife has testified his sibling had no temper and was quiet.

James Bing Jun Louie (LEW’-ee) has admitted to killing his son Jason, 13, and daughter Jane, 9, on the night of Nov. 27, 2009.

But his defence is arguing that Louie was legally insane at the time of the deaths.

Donald Louie testified he had a conversation with his brother and warned him not to hurt his wife, from whom he was separated.

Donald Louie also says he encouraged his brother to get a full-time job instead of being a stay-at-home dad.

Court has already heard that James Louie’s wife, Ying Tang, was an engineer and the breadwinner in the family.
