EDMONTON — An Edmonton researcher who has become a crusader for injury prevention is the new president of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Louis Francescutti says it’s important doctors get proper training to meet increasingly complex medical demands brought on by rapid advances in technology.

He also says wait times remain too high and the health of the population as a whole isn’t improving enough.

Francescutti is the former director of the Alberta Centre for Injury Control and Research and has a wealth of health-care experience.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is responsible for setting standards for specialty medical education.
