Don’t use energy strategy as a ploy to win pipeline support: NDP

Alberta’s NDP leader says a national energy strategy shouldn’t be a ploy to get support from other provinces for oil pipelines.

CALGARY — Alberta’s NDP leader says a national energy strategy shouldn’t be a ploy to get support from other provinces for oil pipelines.

Brian Mason says he supports a federal plan for dealing with oil and gas resources.

But he says it has to promote more domestic upgrading of oil, develop renewable energy and ensure energy security.

Mason says the goal should be to bring jobs and investment to Alberta and the rest of Canada.

Alberta Premier Alison Redford has been actively promoting a national energy strategy that would see provinces working together to develop resources and bring them to new markets.
