EDMONTON — Alberta has named a new chief medical health officer.
Dr. James Talbot takes over from Dr. Andre Corriveau.
Corriveau came from the Northwest Territories to take the job in 2009 — just weeks before the H1N1 scare — but his contract expired in March and he decided to move back to Yellowknife.
Talbot has been an associate clinical professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta for the last eight years.
His experience spans private practice, laboratory, hospital and government settings, including a stint as an associate health officer for Edmonton Capital Health.
Talbot, who grew up and studied in Alberta, was at one time the chief medical health officer for Nunavut.
