A man who was in jail for 11 months awaiting trial had his drug trafficking charges stayed by the federal Crown earlier this week.

James Joseph Sarasin, 39, of Red Deer who was busted on Nov. 22, 2010, was set to have a Queen’s Bench trial in December before the Crown stayed the charges.

Sarasin had been charged with two counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of money alleged to have been derived from the proceeds of crime.

A stay means a charge is held in limbo for a set period or forever.

Red Deer City RCMP executed a search warrant on Nov. 22, 2010, at a residence in the 5800 block of 58A Street in Red Deer.

Seven people were arrested inside but only two were charged.

Police seized crack cocaine, morphine, money and drug paraphernalia.
