Eagles take down Chiefs

The Innisfail Eagles got two-goal performances from Wyatt Hamilton, Travis Dunstall and Chad Ziegler in an 8-3 Chinook Hockey League rout of the host Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs Saturday.

Darryl Laplante and Pete Vandermeer also scored for the Eagles, who led 5-0 after the first period and 6-1 after 40 minutes. Richard Kelly, Ryan Smith and Brett Holmberg accounted for the Chiefs goals.

Winning goalie Jonathan Larose made 31 saves, while Jim Watt and Blake Grenier combined to stop 31 shots at the other end.

Fort Saskatchewan was coming off Friday’s surprising 7-1 thumping of the host Bentley Generals, a game in which former Kootenay Ice forward Steele Boomer tallied twice. Scott Doucet potted the lone Bentley goal.

Watt made 26 saves for the visitors. James Reid and starter and loser Travis Yonkman teamed up to block 13 shots.
