Bouncing baby girl Kitching was the perfect Christmas present for a pair of high school sweethearts.

Aubrey Cameron Kitching came into the world weighing six lbs 14 oz at 12:59 a.m. on Sunday, becoming Red Deer’s first 2011 Christmas Day baby.

She was early.

New parents Kristen Wood, 22, and Dalton Kitching, 24, expected to spend New Years Eve or New Years Day day at the delivery ward in the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Wood’s due date was Dec. 31.

“Now we’ll have to do something now,” laughed Wood about the change in New Year’s Eve plans.

The 22-year-old said her water broke about 5:30 a.m. Kitching said they were still in bed and were just about to get up. They had planned to go shopping for most of the day.

Instead they headed to the hospital where they waited until they were sure Wood was in labour before they called family.

The couple chose the name “Aubrey” because it sounds unusual and has a unique and classic sound to it.

Kitching said he feels a little bad for his newborn because she will have to celebrate her birthday and Christmas on the same day.

Wood said

The couple met in high school in Drayton Valley and have dated for eight years. They have lived in Red Deer for about a year and half.

The engaged couple hope to get married in the next year or so. They were surrounded by family and friends at the hospital on Christmas.
