Edmonton man faces sex assault, child porn charges involving own daughter

A 37-year-old man faces sexual assault and child pornography charges that allegedly involve his own seven-year-old daughter.

EDMONTON — A 37-year-old man faces sexual assault and child pornography charges that allegedly involve his own seven-year-old daughter.

Det. Kevin Fald with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s Internet child exploitation unit says the Edmonton man was arrested at his home last Friday.

Fald said police in Italy found pornographic material that involved a child and traced it to Canada. The National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre then found a link to an Edmonton address.

Officers located the girl, two siblings and their mother at the address in question and took the family to a child protection centre, Fald said.

A man arrived home a short time later and was arrested without incident. Computers and electronic equipment containing pornographic images were seized from the house.

The suspect faces six charges: sexual assault, sexual interference, and production, possession, distribution and accessing child pornography.

Fald said the mother had no idea what was going on in her home. “Her world was turned upside down.”

The accused has appeared in court and remains in custody until his next appearance Oct. 12. He cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
