Edmonton public school board mulls fall break

EDMONTON — Edmonton’s public school board is wondering whether to trade some lazy, hazy days of summer for a November break.

EDMONTON — Edmonton’s public school board is wondering whether to trade some lazy, hazy days of summer for a November break.

The board of trustees is asking for public input into a proposal to change the school year to give staff and students a full week off in the late fall.

But they’d have to cut their summer holidays short by several days.

It’s been suggested that teachers and students need some time off in the fall to match the traditional spring break.

The board member behind the proposal suggests some downtime in November would give teachers a chance to de-stress and help students stay focused.

The board expects it will have a recommendation ready this fall in time for the 2012-13 school year.
