CALGARY — Enbridge Inc. and its U.S. affiliate are planning two pipeline projects to connect crude oil in the West to refineries in the East.

The companies (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:EEP) plan to spend $100 million to expand Line 5 — a pipeline that runs from Superior, Wis., to Sarnia, Ont., — by 50,000 barrels a day.

They will also spend $20 million to reverse the flow of part of Line 9 so that crude can flow from Sarnia to Westover, Ont.

The projects will help connect light oil from Alberta and the Bakken region of Saskatchewan, North Dakota and Montana to refineries in Ontario, Michigan and Ohio.
