A minor explosion at Syncrude Canada’s oilsands plant in northern Alberta sent four people to hospital Monday night.

FORT MCMURRAY. — A minor explosion at Syncrude Canada’s oilsands plant in northern Alberta sent four people to hospital Monday night.

Syncrude spokeswoman Cheryl Robb says one man remains in hospital with burns.

Three other people were treated for shock and released.

Robb says the explosion was in an area where oil is extracted from the sand before being sent for upgrading.

She says a wall was blown out, but the building was not otherwise damaged and production has not been affected.

Syncrude is investigating to see what caused the explosion.
