A Calgary couple will hold funeral services on Saturday for their five-year-old son who drowned at Sylvan Lake a week ago.

Ron and Christine Burke will formally say goodbye to Harrison during a public funeral service at 1 p.m. at Central United Church, located at 131 7th Ave. in downtown Calgary. They are welcoming everyone who would like to share in a celebration of his life.

A small private family service was held on Saturday.

On the early evening of July 25, Harrison had fallen off a private pier in Norglenwold located on the southwestern shores of Sylvan. Rescuers tried to revive him at the scene of his grandparents’ home. He was later pronounced deceased at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Sgt. Duncan Babchuk of Sylvan Lake RCMP said on Tuesday the medical examiner’s office did an autopsy and officially confirmed to the family that Harrison died due to drowning.

The Burkes say that individuals can give a donation in memory of Harrison to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in Calgary.
