Scotiabank Female Lakers bantam team of Sylvan Lake will make its television début during CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada on Nov. 26.

CBC taped footage of the 14 girls, age 12 to 14, on Monday to introduce a NHL game in the pre-game show, Scotiabank Hockey Tonight, prior to the start of the Saturday game.

“They were over the moon. They couldn’t tell you what planet they were on. It was great,” said team manager Christine Langford on Tuesday about the television shoot at Sylvan Lake’s arena.

“They filmed the girls in the change room. They filmed the girls on the bench and during practice.”

Only 25 teams are featured in the pre-game show throughout the regular NHL season. Scotiabank enters all its teams in draws and the Sylvan Lake team won the spot on Canada’s popular hockey show.

Scotiabank Female Lakers is one of nine teams in the B division with the North Central Minor Hockey Association.

Langford said participating in Hockey Night in Canada has given the girls a great boost.

“Girls’ hockey has struggled in the past in Sylvan Lake. It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
