Fencers capture medals

Four members of the Red Deer Fencing Club garnered medals in the Jujie Luan Open during the weekend.

EDMONTON — Four members of the Red Deer Fencing Club garnered medals in the Jujie Luan Open during the weekend.

Leading the way were coach Petar Toshkov and Zac Zanussi, who both struck gold. Toshkov was golden in the men’s epee and Zanussi took top honours in the under-17 men’s epee.

Meanwhile, Jacob Sysak earned a silver medal in the U20 men’s epee and Nathaniel Johnson won a bronze in the same event.

Over the next three weeks, Karis Langvand of the Red Deer club will compete in the World Cup at Stockholm, Sweden, and the Junior Commonwealth Games in Jersey, England.
