CALGARY — Despite an aggressive search, firefighters were unable to save a man who could not escape from a burning home in Calgary.
The fire department says the bi-level-style home was engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the overnight blaze in a northeast neighbourhood.
Neighbours were helping a woman get to safety through a basement window when crews showed up, but she told them a man was trapped inside.
His body was discovered after firefighters worked quickly to get the flames under control in order to search the house.
It’s not known if the man and woman were sleeping downstairs.
The victim’s name has not been released.
