First annual Red Deer Open Chess tournament

Would-be chess masters are invited to test their skills against others at tournament this weekend.

The Alberta Chess Association sponsors its first annual Red Deer Open on Saturday and Sunday at the Red Deer Lodge.

Entry fees are $30, juniors $20 and women $25. Onsite registration runs from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, with games at 10 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m. Sunday games are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Chess Federation of Canada membership is also required to play and will be available onsite. Adult memberships are $43 and juniors $28.

Cash prizes will be awarded.
