Dick and Marilyn Jewell, who planted oil trees on the northern tip of New Zealand in 2004 and 2005, won two medals at the 2011 Los Angeles Olive Oil International Competition in May.

First Drop won a silver medal in the robust category for its oil The 3 Tuscans and bronze in the medium category for Koroneiki.

The Los Angeles competition had over 600 domestic and international entries. Winners were announced in June.
