Flu at lodge

Heart Haven Lodge has been struck by the flu — but not the swine variety.“It’s not swine. We’ve been assured of that,” said manager Candy Dyck on Thursday.

STETTLER — Heart Haven Lodge has been struck by the flu — but not the swine variety.

“It’s not swine. We’ve been assured of that,” said manager Candy Dyck on Thursday.

“Last week we had a few cases of it and this Monday it was declared an official flu outbreak.”

Six out of 71 residents and four staff members have come down the flu which is pretty benign. People are experiencing some stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea but the symptoms clear up on the third day, she said.

Visitors to the lodge have been restricted to only those people who need to be there and the ban is expected to continue until some time next week.

Dyck said this is the first flu outbreak at any of the County of Stettler Housing Authority’s three lodges since August 2007.
