FORT MCMURRAY— Ground crews and aircraft fighting a forest fire near an oilsands project in northeast Alberta are making some progress.
Alberta wildfire officials say the blaze near Suncor Energy’s (TSX:SU) Fire Bag project has now been classified as being held.
The 330-square kilometre fire had been out of control.
The flames were sparked by a lightning strike on Saturday.
Francesca Klingle, an Alberta wildfire information officer, says the flames continue to burn away from the Suncor site.
Fire officials are keeping a close eye on the long range forecast which is calling for an extended period of hot, sunny weather.
